Help Faith In Action address loss of SNAP benefits and growing food insecurity by donating to their Dexter Food Pantry at November 6 and future club meetings.
Faith In Action Executive Director Sarah Shugart reports the organization is seeing in influx of donations and an influx of people who are worried/scared as a result of the widely reported loss of federal SNAP benefits as of November 1. Sarah suggests the following for people who would like to help meet this growing need through donations to their Dexter Food Pantry located in Hilltop Terrace at 7651 Dan Hoey Rd., Community Building C:
- Canned chili, canned beef stew, Chef Boyardee products, and chunky soups
- Breakfast cereal
- Toilet paper
- Diaper wipes, and size 4 and 5 diapers
- Purchasing food from the grocery store and purchasing a lot of the same items make shelving quick and easy for FIA volunteers
Dexter Rotary members are encouraged to bring donated items or monetary support to the November 6 meeting with the Interact Club at Dexter High School, Francie Kivel is coordinating delivery to FIA and making a shopping trip using donated funds. Members can Venmo donations to Francie directly at @Francie-Kivel.
With Thanksgiving approaching FIA may be seeking more donated turkeys to meet the anticipated need for additional Thanksgiving baskets this year as well.
If the SNAP pause continues long term FIA is exploring pop-up food pantries in local schools and senior centers, where Dexter Rotary assistance with legwork and logistics could be valuable.
